Author Blanche Walker (CRC Coordinator)
We never ever thought in a million years that our little Community Resource Centre would be eligible to run for any kind of business awards let alone win one!
On the 8th August we had a workshop conducted by Marilyn from RSM who came out and provided an outreach service providing access to free advice and guidance to current and aspiring small business owners across Western Australia. Marilyn who is also the Gascoyne Regional Awards Coordinator told us that we should enter the CRC into the Gascoyne Regional Awards that were to be held in Carnarvon in a couple of weeks' time. After filling out all the necessary forms we had entered into a few categories; Regional Business and customer service excellence, Community Engagement, and Health.
Unfortunately due to having another event on we missed the awards ceremony and were unaware of our win until the following night when we were at Mt Augustus long table dinner and Jules Bush the Gascoyne Tourism Development Officer was doing a speech and at the end announced that we had won the Community Engagement award. We were also finalists in these three categories.
The Gascoyne Junction CRC won this award because we continually try to have a positive impact on the local community, we are the hub of the town. It is of the highest priority that we provide services and facilitate fun and accessible events in the town that are engaging and inspiring to children and adults alike.
